Best Juicer to Buy – It’s Time to Make a Decision!
Let’s Look at the Breville Juicers
BEST JUICER TO BUY? A quality juicer is something that belongs in the kitchen of every home in the country. I’m not talking about those cheap $30 “toys” they call juicers that are sold in department stores. I’m talking about a quality-made appliance that can handle almost anything and continue to serve you with fresh, nutritious juice whenever you want it.
A proper juicer provides health benefits to everyone. It’s particularly useful in getting kids to consume more vegetables and fruits regularly. Most adults could use more fruits and vegetables in their diet too and a juicer makes it easy to accomplish. Juicers are designed to produce fruit and vegetable juices, as opposed to smoothies, which are the product of a blender. One of the big reasons for adding fresh squeezed juices to your diet is to get those raw nutrients into the bloodstream quickly, without taxing the digestive system. That’s one of the big differences between juices and smoothies. Smoothies are thicker and tend to fill you up. It takes the body time to process all that roughage. But fresh-pressed juice instantly energizes and invigorates you. If you’ve used the juicer before, you know the exceptional taste and health value that they can bring. If you’re new to juicing, you’re about to be astonished by what this simple kitchen appliance can do for you and your family.

There are Many Benefits!
Enjoy fresh Concord grape juice, or homemade lemonade from whole apples and lemon and you’ll be blown away. Almost instantly, you’ll feel terrific all over. It makes your body seem lighter as it lifts your spirits. You won’t feel any bloating or fatigue like you might you might experience with a smoothie. The biggest reason people get into juicing is for the health benefits it provides. They decide that enough is enough and it’s time to make some lifestyle changes. This may or may not include losing weight, but juicing almost always includes improving one’s daily diet as a preventative measure and juicing is a terrific way to do just that.
Shopping For A Juicer.
The challenge with shopping for a juicer is that there are so many different brands, models, and variations on the market that it can quite confusing. The purpose of this article is to help you break it down, so that you understand the basics of juicers and the differences between the various types. Along the way, we will also make product recommendations based on our experience to help you make the right decision for you and your family. When it comes to juicers in general, there are essentially four types. There is the cheap $25-$35 all-plastic items sold in local stores that are not very durable or reliable. This is the kind of juicer we advise you to stay away from. Let’s just say that you’re better off saving the cash or giving it to charity.
The second type loosely connected to the juicer is actually a blender. Although blenders are completely different appliances, several blender brands are actively going after those in the market for a good juicer. So we wanted to include or at least mention them here. Blenders like the Vitamix take the whole fruit and vegetable and process at all. You can make a simulated juice in a Vitamix by adding water, but it’s not the same as using a quality juice extractor. Now we’re down to the real two types of juicers – centrifugal juicers and cold press juicers. Centrifugal juicers are the most widely available, popular, and affordable. Cold press juicers (also known as masticating juicers or slow juicers) have been around for a long time. But until recently, this type of juicer was primarily used by serious health seekers only.
There are several important details to consider when shopping for a juicer. These include the overall functionality, durability, the amount of juice yielded, method of juice extraction, ease of cleaning the machine and the value you get for your investment. Juicing is essentially the process of extracting the maximum amount of liquid from raw fruits and vegetables. As mechanical tools, they go to work separating the pulp from the liquid. A good juicer is able to extract considerable nutritional value from these raw foods and deliver it in the form of fresh juice. These juices are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants – the kinds of things you want to feed your body for maximum nutrition. The dryer the extracted pulp seems to be, the more nutrient-laden the juice because it means that most of all available vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and enzymes were squeezed out.
Centrifugal juicers extract the liquid from fruits and vegetables by means of a high-speed blade that rotates as the food is pushed into it. The rapid rate at which this blade spins draws the liquid one way and the pulp another as the food is pushed up against the blade and mesh filter. It’s the centrifugal force of the spinning blade that separates the juice from the rest. Centrifugal juicers operate at much higher speed than cold press juicers. They also tend to be noisier. Centrifugal juicers generally have bigger intake areas to feed the food through. With a larger chute, there’s less prep work involved, since you don’t have to cut up all those fruits and vegetables into smaller pieces. But this wider chute is only useful when the machine is also equipped with a strong motor.
You need something that can accommodate whole food processing without wearing down. That’s one reason why super-cheap models should be avoided. They break down too easily. Cold press juicers extract the juice by first pressing and then squeezing it to extract every last drop. Overall, cold press juicers do a more efficient job of extraction. They operate at a much slower RPM, yet tend to produce slightly more juice using the same amount of ingredients. The slower speeds at which cold press juicers operate prevents oxidation, which in turn makes the end product healthier and more palatable. Cold press machines are also capable of juicing more things including wheatgrass, sprouts and even nuts, making them more versatile than their centrifugal cousins.
The biggest disadvantage of the best coldpress juicer is the higher cost. Over time it tends to even out because you get more juice from each batch of produce. Add the fact that you can make more things with a cold press machine and the higher price becomes less of an issue. With many cold press juicers, the feeding chute is considerably smaller. Therefore, you need to chop up your fruits and vegetables into smaller pieces to accommodate the lower RPM’s they operate at. These machines also tend to be more difficult to clean than other juicers, in part because you’re dealing with a smaller chute and often more parts. On the plus side, cold press juicers tend to deliver juice that has the highest possible nutrient value and also last longer in storage.
That’s not to say you can prepare your juice and have it sit in the fridge for a week. But you can certainly prepare juice in the morning and drink it all day long and get the full health benefits – or close to it. So essentially, when looking for the best juicer to buy, you need to decide between the centrifugal type and cold-press juicer. If you’re going to be juicing only fruits and vegetables, a centrifugal juicer probably makes the most sense. Or, if it’s your first serious juicer it’s best to go with one that’s not as costly. Maximum Yields To get the most use out of any juicer it is highly recommended that you select farm-fresh fruits and vegetables that are not overripe. Avoid soft fruits and veggies where possible and make sure that that fruit and vegetable is pre-chilled. Test this out for yourself and see if it increases the output you get.
Cleaning the Machine
Cleanup is relatively easy and takes about five minutes. Typically when making juice, I allow five minutes for prepping fruits and vegetables, five minutes for juicing, and five minutes for cleanup. Figure on about fifteen minutes in total and you’ve got more than enough to make fresh delicious juice. You may find that some juicers have problem areas and indents where food gets trapped and it’s difficult to clean. In these instances, more time, and perhaps a different brush may in order.
For cleaning any juicer the ideal time is the second the juice finishes pouring into the receptacle. Set it aside and take a few minutes to soak break down the machine and then soak the parts of the exposed parts in warm soapy water. You’ll need a brush (one that’s often included with your juicer) to scrub the mashing. Doing this ensures that your juicer stays in peak condition and it’s ready for use next time. If you let it go it’s much harder to clean later. Just getting a habit of this soon as you use it clean.
Time-Saving Tips
Locate the receptacle where the pulp goes. Before using your machine each time, place in a biodegradable (Green Bin) bag inside the receptacle. This bag should catch all the pulp, which you can simply recycle or use as you wish. The bag saves you from one more having one more thing to clean every time you use your juicer. Some people prefer to chop up their fruits and vegetables, bag, and store them in the fridge. That way when they’re ready to juice, they simply pull out their chopped produce and put it in their juicer. One problem with this though is that you lose some nutritional value from those fruits and veggies.
Let’s take a look at some of the top juicers that we recommend.
Breville BJE510XL Juice Fountain Multi-Speed 900-Watt Juicer
This model is a 900-Watt powerhouse.
It looks great on the countertop and just fits under the standard-height upper cabinets. By the way, it’s best to leave your juicer out on the counter. That way you’re more likely to use it every day. This juicer is good for anyone who wants to juice both fruits and vegetables. While we generally recommend a cold pressed juicer for those wanting to focus primarily on juicing leafy greens and fresh herbs, this Breville has no problem with greens of any kind. This machine also features a power dial, so you can dial it down for softer fruits and crank it up for harder items like carrots or broccoli stalks.
This juicer is a popular choice. It’s easy to operate with five speed options to choose from based on the ingredients you’re juicing. The extra large feed chute makes it easy to use larger chunks of fruits and vegetables. It could even handle multiple carrots at once. The feature is located directly over the cutting blade and the stainless steel mesh filter, helping to minimize noise and vibration. The body is made of premium die-cast alloy with stainless steel components. It’s a quality make that’s built to last. All surfaces that come in contact with food are BPA free for your safety. The cutting blade is reinforced with titanium, helping it remain sharper over a longer period.

Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000-Watt Juice Extractor
Like all Breville juicing machines, this one features brilliant engineering that helps extract the maximum nutritional value from fruits and vegetables. This juicer doesn’t heat up the food, despite the fact that the blades are turning at a high rate of speed. This helps preserve natural enzymes, nutrients, and flavor. As with most Breville centrifugal juicers, the feed shoot is located directly above the cutting blade and stainless steel mesh. This is a simple idea that makes Breville a top juicer brand. It minimizes noise and vibration. Yet it amplifies the capability of the machine since the food is being pressed directly over the shaft of the motor. There are two distinct speeds based on the type of ingredient used. And this machine is able to automatically detect it and adjust the speed based on what you’re juicing at the time.

Breville BJE820XL Juice Fountain Duo Dual Disc Juicer
This model of juicer has the added function of being able to make delicious purées as well as incredible juices. Both a standard juicing blade and puree are included. This model also features the biggest motor Breville uses in their juicers. It’s a motor that is capable of juicing virtually any kind of fruit or vegetable – including tough skins, stalks, and cores. With 1200 Watts of power – this motor is strong enough to handle anything in its path. As with all Breville juicers, cleanup is relatively quick and easy. You simply break the unit down and rinse it under hot, soapy water. Then you brush out the stainless steel mesh with the brush provided – or something similar. Adjustable speeds allow you to control the juicing process for maximum effectiveness. This means slowing the speed down for softer fruits and vegetables and speeding it up for harder, denser foods.
One thing buyers have repeatedly commented on that they love about Breville juicers is the large feed chute that’s built-in to every Breville we recommend. This is a huge timesaver in that it allows you to feed whole foods like apples and peeled oranges directly into the juicer, without having to chop them up into smaller bits. All Breville juicers seem super-sturdy and well-made. Clearly there are quality materials built-in including the stainless steel mesh filter and titanium reinforced cutting blade. Not only does it function well, it looks sleek and stylish. It’s something you want to leave on your counter not just to ensure that you use it frequently but to show it off.

Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt Juice Extractor
Though not the most powerful motor Breville offers, this 850-Watt, dual speed motor is rugged enough for any home juicing application. Combined with a strong stainless steel blade and mesh filter, this machine is fully capable of extracting delicious, nutritious juice powerfully and effectively. Two speeds are offered. The slow speed of 6500 RPM is ideal for softer produce. The 12,000 RPM top speed is better for harder ingredients like watermelon rinds, carrots, or firm pears. Part of the Breville brilliance is evident in this Juice Fountain Plus. Despite the fact that it’s a high-speed, centrifugal juicer, it only generates minimal heat. What this does is it ensures that naturally occurring enzymes and antioxidants remain intact in the juice. So you get the full nutritional benefit from every glass. There’s a locking arm that prevents the juicer from being used unless everything is properly in its place. It also comes with overload protection, so the machine will shut down if the load capacity is reached.

Breville BJ600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Slow Juicer
Breville BJS600XL Fountain Crush Masticating Slow Juicer
While Breville mostly offers centrifugal models – as far as juicers go, this one gets them into the market of cold press juicers as well. These juicers are quite different from all centrifugal juicers in that they operate at much slower speeds. That’s why the super-quiet, 240-Watt induction motor is more than enough. Breville is confident enough in this motor to offer a 10 year warranty on it.
This juicer uses slow squeeze technology to push every ounce of liquid out of fruits and vegetables. It’s a quiet juicer. But it does occasionally run into problems where food gets stuck. And you have to chop vegetables up to a smaller size than you do with their centrifugal juicers.

Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite Juicer and Biodegradable Pulp Bin
Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite Juicer and Biodegradable Pulp Bin

The blade is reinforced with titanium, which helps keep it sharper longer. Like most Breville juicers, this one has a large 3 inch mouth to accommodate whole fruits and vegetables.
What’s particularly interesting about this juicer is that it comes complete with 30 juicer bags to be used in the pulp bin. You don’t have to buy a juicer with bags. You can pick up the bags anywhere. But it does offer convenience. It just makes life that much easier. You get 30 bags and by the time you go through that many of them, you’ll be used to using a bag in the pulp receptacle. Breville Juice Fountain Plus Electric Juicer (Black & Silver)
For anything other leafy greens, this juicer handles it magnificently. It makes quick work of apples, cantaloupe, oranges, pears, grapes, carrots, broccoli, celery, and peppers. In fact, any fruit is no match for this monster.
This one is easy to disassemble for cleaning and equally easy to reassemble again. Once again Breville offers its large feed chute to minimize prep time for buyers. Where this juicer is a little weak is when you’re trying to juice leafy greens like Swiss chard, spinach or kale. There is a way to do it and that is to include other include other ingredients. Try carrots or celery and then use these as a base by wrapping the soft leafy green around them. Soft greens by themselves are a challenge for any centrifugal juicer. Like most Breville products, this one comes with a one-year limited warranty. It’s powerful, capable timesaving and reliable. It’s also quiet and built for durability. You can count on a Breville juicer to last you long enough to know that buying it was the right thing to do.

SKG New Generation Wide Chute Anti-Oxidant Slow Masticating(240W)
There’s another cold press juicer available with a large feed chute. This of course means you don’t have to cut your fruit and vegetables up quite so small. Despite the fact that you can put in whole fruits and veggies, this machine does not bog down – it’s that powerful of a juicer.
You’ll still have to treat it with care. You don’t want to overload the machine and have it clog up on you. But it’s surprising at what can be fed into it. This alone makes it worth serious consideration. The fact that so many buyers love this juicer is another reason. It also comes with a 10 year warranty on the motor and a five year warranty on parts. Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer – Amazon Best Seller
There’s good torque here, thanks to the strong motor that’s built in the Omega. That’s what prevents it from bogging down under heavy loads. It can still clog occasionally, but there’s an easy fix. It takes a few uses to get comfortable with it. But when you taste the end result and experience better health because of it, you’ll be delighted with your purchase.
This juicer is a top seller. It’s another cold press juicer, which means it’s operates at a slower speed (about 80 RPMs) and it does so in this two-stage process. This juicer produces higher yields of high-quality juice that retains its natural color. Because there’s less foam (a product of oxidation) the juice produced by the Omega has a longer shelf life. You can store it for up to 72 hours and still get nearly maximum nutritional affect. It’s dual system. This means that the produce is first crushed and then pressed tightly against the mesh to extract all of its juice. It’s this crushing and pressing method – unlike the grinding of a centrifugal juicer – that generates dryer pulp and a higher yield of juice. This machine is more than just a juicer. It’s also capable of churning nut butter from nuts. It can also grind spices and coffee, and even make almond or soy milk. Because it yields more juice per pound of produce, it’s more economical than other juicers over the long haul. It’s rugged and durable. Built to last and to provide years of healthy juicing quietly. The warranty with this juicer is a full 15 years. So you can buy with confidence.
